Questions, corrections and requests are all welcome. Email contact@japanesenames.org, or use the form below — both reach the same inbox, and we read every message.

What We Can Help With

  • Corrections. A wrong reading, stroke count, meaning or historical detail. These get priority — please include the name and what should change.
  • Name requests. An English name missing from the katakana list, or a Japanese name you think belongs in the main list.
  • Kanji and reading questions. Why a name is read a certain way, or how two spellings differ.
  • Seimei Handan questions. How a result was calculated — the formulas are set out on the methodology page.
  • Reuse and licensing. Using the calligraphy images or data elsewhere; see the terms of service.

Including the exact name and page URL helps us answer in one reply rather than three.

Answers You Might Already Need

  • "How do I write my name in Japanese?" — the name converter does this instantly in katakana.
  • "Is this name right for a tattoo or engraving?" — have any permanent use checked by a fluent Japanese speaker first. We cannot certify a spelling.
  • "Can you register this name officially for me?" — no. Japanese naming law applies to Japanese family registers, and a resident's name is handled by their local ward office.
  • "Can I use the names and images commercially?" — see the terms of service for what the licence covers.
  • "What data do you collect?" — the privacy policy lists everything, including what the contact form sends.
